About Our Pastor
Reverend Derick Brennan is a native of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and is married to the former Alberta Byrd, Esquire and the proud parents of David.
Rev. Brennan is currently matriculating in the Doctor of Ministry Program at Duke University’s Divinity School in Durham, NC, with a concentration in Church Leadership and Ministry System Development. He is a graduate of the Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity Degree. He is also a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. Complementing Reverend Brennan’s educational credentials is his extensive vocational experience, which includes business consulting for major corporations.
In December 2001, God called Reverend Brennan to the Pastorate of the Second Canaan Baptist Church, in Harlem, New York. During his tenure as pastor, Second Canaan took bold steps forward including: the creation of ministry infrastructure, strategic planning, and the use of technology to advance ministry. The church also started a feeding ministry, hosted a Senior Center and various workshops and symposiums. Consequently, hundreds of individuals dedicated or rededicated their lives to Christ.
Under Rev. Brennan’s leadership, the church has embarked on a two million dollar capital campaign to renovate the main building, acquire an adjacent property and develop three contiguous properties into a Family Empowerment Center, an Economic Empowerment Center and an Education Empowerment Center. These Empowerment Centers seek to serve the community at large through a Christocentric approach that is wholistic in focus and empowering in application.
Rev. Brennan is a Vice Moderator of the PA Eastern Keystone Baptist Association, a Lott Carrey Pastoral Excellence Program participant, a past recipient of the Phila. Tribune “10 Under 40 to Watch” Award and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
One of Reverend Brennan’s favorite verses of scripture is Isaiah 61:1, which states:
