How to Build Community

Community Involvement

Canaan’s commitment to Godly stewardship extends beyond the congregation and walls of the church. We partner with a number of local service organizations and schools to help improve the lives of those in the surrounding community and beyond.

Family Life Center

Canaan Baptist Church and The Family Life Center (FLC) are separate entities but maintain a collaborative relationship.  Family Life Center is a non-faith-based 501(c)3 non-profit. The church provides tangible resources for FLC's community outreach programs in addition to Family Life's public donations. For more info, please visit the FLC website and/or headquarters located at 302 Schoolhouse Lane, Philadelphia, 19144 to sign up for valuable resources.  Nichelle Johnson, Executive Director.

Sisters Returning Home Mentoring Program

Sisters Returning Home assists women who are returning citizens from prison to the community by successfully re-establishing their connection to their families and community. The 501(c)3 non-profit organization helps build and develop self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and self-respect and works with the women to develop a comprehensive set of life skills.

Sisters Returning Home offers a comprehensive program designed to fully transition previously incarcerated women back into society. Programming focuses on developing confidence and responsible habits in addition to computer literacy training and employer expectations.
